Chris Eckersley

Chris Eckersley is an artist and designer who makes sculpture, objects,  and furniture. His interest is in making well-crafted and carefully considered pieces which are designed to last.
Chris was born and brought up in Birmingham - in those days a hive of small industries known as the ‘Workshop of the World’  - and so inherited the Brummie attitude that it’s perfectly feasible to get a small workshop and make things by hand.
One-off commissions for individual pieces are welcomed.

Chris is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a former Visiting Tutor at Central Saint Martins College, and an External Examiner on the Spatial Design course at the University of Hertfordshire.

In 2010 Chris Eckersley set up the ‘Bodging Milano’ project, whereby nine designer-makers rediscovered the ancient art of ‘bodging’ (greenwood chair-making) in the ash woods of Herefordshire - and then took the results to the Milan Furniture Fair.
