nbNg is the collection of fold-formed work made by designer-maker Nettie Birch of Ng Jewellery.
Very different from her other jewellery and born from a desire to explore how metals move naturally rather than forcing shapes upon them, the pieces reflect organic forms and sweeping shapes. Using the malleability of copper and, more unusually the strength and lightness of aluminium, large pieces have been created which can be scaled for more everyday wear.
Fold-forming was developed by Charles Lewton-Brain in the 1980′s and was a completely new way of working with metal. By folding sheet metal and then compressing it, either by hammering, rolling or pressing, unique shapes are created once the folds are opened.
