Ceramic Tiles - Edinburgh Contemporary Craft Workshops
Create a set of six small or three large coasters, heat mats or tiles! Working with white earthenware clay and colourful underglazes you will create a set of tiles with the same pattern and then glaze them in different ways. Make your own plaster press mould in whatever shape you choose (they don’t have to be square!) to take away with you at the end of the course, experiment with ways of adding texture to your tile using fabrics, papers and found objects as well as carving into the plaster mould after it is cast, and finally press a set of tiles and decorate with colourful underglazes before finishing with a clear matt glaze.

Colour & Tapestry Weaving with Joan Baxter
This class can be taken as a continuation of the Introduction to Tapestry class or can stand alone. It is primarily aimed at those who already know the basics of tapestry but it can also be applied to other constructed textile processes such as knitting, cloth weave and canvass embroidery so is not exclusively for tapestry weavers.
Students will develop colour palettes for their textile work using a large range of coloured yarns that Joan will supply for the class. During the class you will make a series of colour samples derived from memory, from photographic or painted sources and from actual objects.

Composing and making pictures with fabrics and found objects
Nestling in the South Downs National Park near Chichester, West Dean College, with its large country house style, offers a creative educational environment allowing you to escape the pressures of daily life and learn in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. Course fees are non-residential and accommodation is available from £91 for a weekend and from £240 for a 6 day summer school.
Explore ways of combining ideas, materials and techniques intuitively. Work directly with fabrics and found objects as you piece together a composition using simple hand-sewing and shape-cutting methods.
