Batik on Cotton and Silk
An introduction to batik with artist and textile designer, Libby Yule. An opportunity to discover (maybe re-discover) this ancient artform.
View more details
Libby’s work is inspired by the natural world and particularly the landscape and plants of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.
The workshop will begin with a very brief introduction to the history of batik. Then there will be the first ‘How to’ session - this will cover some initial instructions in the basic techniques of batik.
The second part of the workshop will take the techniques used so far, and create a second batik of your own design.
The next ‘How to’ session includes how to transfer your design idea on the cotton or silk fabric. Also stencils, leaves, and all kind of materials can be used.
The landscape around the Centre is inspirational so you may want to reflect that in your batik work. Or maybe you really want to create a personal batik design. It’s up to you but Libby will guide and support you in your work, so that by the end of the day you will have two pieces.
